There is a place where all the magic happens. Surrounded by native forests, centennial oaks and the Miño river; right in the heart of deep Galicia, lies Idoia Cuesta’s workshop. A place enticing creativity all by itself.
From here, Idoia creates dreamy pieces that awake all our senses and bond with lush nature around. She loves to experiment with all kinds of fibers, from chestnut wood tapes to my favourite, natural wool; any thread-like thing is susceptible to be weaved and turned into a masterpiece.
She likes to grow her own willow and collect the branches once they are ready to be weaved. Using all that nature offers as a true source of inspiration.
When she is not busy travelling the world with her art, she likes to go back to her shelter, her simple and authentic life in the country where she finds her balance to keep her creative mind in good shape.
Her studio is an open place where everyone is invited to plunge in. Perfectly blended in a tiny village where longlife neighbours comfortable come in to ask her for a new basket for their firewood while she weaves a bag for Loewe.
I have always admired Idoia’s work and the way she navigates between ancestral tradition and contemporary art, working with natural fibers and connecting art to nature in the most brilliant way.
It was such a delight spending a day with her, immersed in her captivating universe.
